Course Description:
Students
will research and develop a major project that integrates the concepts and
knowledge from prior courses. Students will pursue further selected topics in
order to complete a personal portfolio, make presentations to faculty, and
demonstrate their overall understanding of program competencies. Students will
participate on team projects and present current developments in their area of
study.
Course Objectives:
1. Design a
typical Information Technology solution for a given small business scenario;
2. Use
critical thinking skills to solve problems;
3. Develop
computer systems, office procedures, and records management documentation.
These
objectives will be measured by individual projects and team presentations.
Course Requirements:
1. Attendance:
Class attendance is required. Chronic absenteeism will degrade team performance
and negatively affect a student’s team peer evaluation and professional
evaluation. At the beginning of class, check in with the instructor and
submit any assignments due before leaving.
2.
Professionalism: High standards of professionalism are required.
Professionalism includes appropriate behavior and interaction between team
members and classmates, submitting assignments on time, and academic integrity.
Courtesy and respect toward faculty, staff, and other students is expected.
Students and teams must be sure not to fall behind the class schedule. Open lab
periods have been set aside for students to finish work. Open lab periods for
each lab room are posted beside the lab entrance. When another course is
scheduled for a lab, the lab is considered closed at that time period and you
are required to exit. Also, refer to items 1 and 2 under Policies.
3.
Environment: Students should remember to maintain a good lab environment.
Please keep the work areas clean and quiet. Talking to each other about course
work is OK – just keep it low key so as not to disturb others.
4. Students are encouraged to ask
questions of the instructor or each other relative to text material and project
assignments.
5. Contact the instructor if extra
help is needed.
Policies:
1. Please
notify me at the first class period if any special accommodations that fall
under the Americans with Disabilities Act are required.
2. Students
not attending class on time will be counted as late. If you are late 3 times,
it will count as an absence.
3. Class
assignments must be turned in at the beginning of class on the day the
assignment is due. There will be a 24 hour grace period during which
assignments may be accepted, but there will be an automatic 20% grade
reduction. Assignments turned in after 24 hours will receive the grade of zero.
No exceptions.
4. The
Final Exam must be taken and must be taken at the scheduled time. Failure to
take the final exam will result in an F for the course.
5. Each
student is responsible for all material distributed or discussed in class and
for all assignments. Absences do not constitute an exception to this policy.
6. Other
policies of CoSCC are contained in the College
Catalog under “Standards and Regulations” and should be reviewed by the student
on matters not specifically covered by this syllabus.
